USCF Rating 1931
My full name is Rudy Neil Enriquez and I learned how to play chess at 12 by my older brother. I used to play against his chess computer but then the batteries died and I stoped playing until I was 17 when I found out my school had a chess team. My first day there I played his one kid who crushed me game after game! I was furious and did not go back for the rest of the year. Instead, I went out and bought some chess books and studied constantly and bought some batteries for my chess computer. I wanted to come back the next year and destroy him and play board 1! The following year came and I did just that... I beat him and I also was board one! I then had to study even more to beat the kids from the other schools. Regaurdless of all the hours I spent studying, I probably only won 4 games out of 10 during the season. I remember one time I spent my entire christmas vaction in Mexico studying six hous a day! Then when I was off of vaction we had a tough school to play and despite all my studies I still lost! What they failed to tell me was the person I was playing was ranked 5th in state. I still kept fighting despite my hard efforts and countless losses and by the time the state championships came I played the best chess of my entire season! I did not place very well but I was happy with my play. In the span of a year I was able to go from just knowing the basic moves to a 1300+ player which is not that great but I had to teach my self everything (basic mates, pawn endgames, tactics, openings.). After the chess season was over I did not study as much chess but when the summer came around something just clicked and my skills jumped up enourmously. During the chess season I was never able to beat my coach and then I started becoming closer to beating him and finally I beat him with my first brilliant combination. I recently joined the USCF and with some prepatory work my first tournament went well. I played in the U1800 section and won the unrated section and even placed in the top ten overall wita score of 3.5/5! My first provisonal rating was 1721. My second tournament was a B class tournament and I placed 2nd overall with a score of 4/5 and besides the one game I lost the rest of my games were under 30 moves! This brought my rating to 1836. After this I have not had too much success in tournaments but still manage to make it the finals in 90% of my tournaments but fail to win first place. My rating is still about the same after one year on the USCF circut but I am training very hard and hope to become an expert class player very soon and by May of next year I hope to have at least recieved one IM norm. The diagrams here are combinations I have done.
