MY CHESS PROFILE
been playing since 1988. It was my father's challenge that triggered the desire to know the game...can't beat his English Opening(Sicilian with Black) back then. started purchasing Atlas Sports magazines that made a review of the various openings still using the old descriptive notation....Took chess as PE 2 in college where I had a great run of wins(11) with a loss only to a varsity player... .
never made it big in chess. though i'm a member of our college faculty team(which is the defending champion at Palarong UPLB for the 2nd year) and my highest achievement(as an individual player) was a fourth place finish in the town's championship in 1998(3.5/5--drawing (With a KID) with the late NM Ching Soria, winning over the champ, Prof. Tony Sobremisana (a 1900 player), of the said event).
Was able to play against the late IM Ruben Rodriguez in a simul at the YMCA in UPLB (30+ moves loss, Modern Benoni)...and with NM (now GM) Bong Villamayor in a simul (less than 20 moves loss in a French)....and lastly with FM Jesse Noel Sales (blitz game--with an obvious result(of a loss) with 5 min to 1 minute (or was it 2) advantage for me)...recently played white in a chess simul with GM Eugene Torre (lost in 26 moves against his Alekhine's)...had my winning/drawing chances though : )

advanced in the 2nd round of the Dark Knight Opens (group 9) scoring 5 of 6 pts).... in the third round of the dark knight's tourney..advances to the finals..there were only two of us left..placed second (of 100 players) behind a 2000+ opponent..was able to draw one game...all glory to Him who gives me strength..my second medal here in Chess.com...
Advanced to the 2nd round by topping group 22 in 2nd chess.com thematic(sicilian) tourney...Finished 3rd of 6 players in group 14 of 2nd Chess.Com Thematic(sicilian) tourney...final rank: 53 of 702 players...

Our college team won the Chess event of the 2010 Palarong UPLB...tied with the College of Agriculture team with 3/4 but with a better tiebreak of having swept our 4 boards over them...scored 3/4 in the 4 round event (2 wins(1 default), 2 draws(1 losing position)..
in 2nd round of thematic King's Indian Tourney...Although I really was surprised to find myself in it...finished second in Group 3 of the 2nd round of the 4th Thematic King's Indian tourney....finished 33rd of 588 players...

advances to the second round with Mammuti in the ChessEurope 2010 tournament after leading on tiebreak the group 12 eliminations (praise God for this...)...round 2 I am in group 1 as the third ranked player...and i was blanked at the end of round 2 in group 1...great group...
Topped group 9 in Challenger's Tournament..advances in the second round..tied with another player, advances to the third round...wow, you o Lord is amazing....finished last(5th) in group 1 after the 3rd round...thanks for the run...finished 12th of 100 players.

Got my first medal here in chess.com in a tournament..Chess 960 Tryout League II...finished 3rd of ten participants...Without God I am nothing...

Topped group 1 in Open Chess 960 Tournament to qualify for the 2nd round...made it to the 2nd round by finishing 2nd in group 4...thanks Lord...going to the third round by finishing 2nd in group 2...advances again in this tournament by finishing tied for first in the group (with higher tiebreak)...all glory to GOD...finished 3rd of 4 players in group 1 in round 5, will not advance any more but the experience is just great...finished 3rd in this tournament and correspondingly won the third place medal...Lord You're amazing!
