About Me:

I started playing chess in 2002 after watching the film "searching for bobby fischer."  I had played chess before a handful of times when I was a kid, but nothing beyond that.  I was on my own learning wise and found a few people to play me in the local Starbucks, but my chess education was greatly lacking.  I really started to love chess after learning about the history of the game and the personalities who shaped the game into what it is today.  It's hard to put my finger on what exactly is so bewitching about the game, but I'm convinced it has to do with a complex marriage of competition and art.

Endgame Study #1

Submitted by immortalgamer on Nov 16, 2008 1:14pm.

The diagonal has 4 squares and the queen'd pawn takes 5 squares.  So if your instinct to move to a4 is correct, but in the endgame it loses.  The key is understanding opposition.  Use your king to keep the black king from getting past you....Read more »
