Not a great lover of Elton John (oops ~ what a faux pas), but I am a lover of the harpsichord, and his use of it here has transformed this song from the original piano version. . . turn me loose from your hands. . .

Quintessentially English, I live in a coastal hamlet on England’s southern shoreline near Plymouth from where the Pilgrim Fathers set out to discover the New World. Rich green pastures roll down to the sea from my home and that is my front-yard. I split my time (not in equal proportions) between here and the Bahamas. It is often (and almost always for me), the simpler pleasures that bring excitement into life ~ and doing just about anything at all in the right company. These simple joys are what effortlessly create fond memories and laughter out of nothing in particular and they are what rock my world. Enjoyment and more particularly, its enrichment, is inextricably linked to sharing. Chess is just one of those simple pleasures and I love the game and most everything it has brought me. I play free of style and without patience for long-winded deliberation, which, for me, although it can prove disadvantageous, spoils enjoyment of the game by making it a chore. I like all music and good poetry. I am particularly fond of the plays and sonnets of William Shakespeare. I have a fondness too for good food, fine wine, good beer, and girls ~ I enjoy getting through a good deal of all of these.

Love to faults is always blind, always is to joy inclined. Lawless, winged and unconfined, and breaks all chains from every mind. ~ William Blake

Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none; be able for thine enemy rather in power than in use; and keep thy friend under thine own life's key; be checked for silence, but never taxed for speech. ~ WS

Manners are a sensitive awareness of the feelings of others. If you have that awareness, you have good manners, no matter what fork you use!

"We play the game with the bravery of being out of range!" ~ Roger Waters
"To be an Englishman is to belong to the most exclusive club there is."Â

When most I wink, then do mine eyes best see,
For all the day they view things unrespected;
But when I sleep, in dreams they look on thee,
And darkly bright are bright in dark directed.
Then thou, whose shadow shadows doth make bright,
How would thy shadow's form form happy show
To the clear day with thy much clearer light,
When to unseeing eyes thy shade shines so!
How would, I say, mine eyes be blessed made
By looking on thee in the living day,
When in dead night thy fair imperfect shade
Through heavy sleep on sightless eyes doth stay!
All days are nights to see till I see thee,
And nights bright days when dreams do show thee me. Â
