About Me:
I am a mathematician, working on PDE, working at the American University of Beirut.
I play chess since I was 16. My profession does not allow me to play too often.
My best results are:
1st in Championship of US state of Missouri, 2000,
1st in International Open, Apolda 2007.
I played correspondence chess during the 80th and 90th:
1st in GDR Students Championship 1984,
2nd in the last(!) GDR Championship (it ended 1991, two years after the fall of the Berlin wall...).
Only this year I came back to correspondence chess.
I also like classical music
(Bach, Chopin, Grieg, also Schostakovich), poetry (especially Russian of 20th century, like Mandelshtam, Achmatova.
My Chess Style / Favorite Openings:
My favorites in chess history are Aljechin, Botwinnik, Kasparov, Rubinstein, Bronstein, Fischer.
There are many other players who I also admire:
for instance Petrosian
(especially he deserves more credit than he usually gets: Do you know that he was the only master who beat Fischer in a Blitz match ? ),
Kramnik, Topalov...
(Sometimes it is difficult to acknowledge that somebody is an a.... - as a person - but is a great chessplayer and artist at the same time!)
