About Me:
as a recent graduate in mathematics from the university of chicago, i like chess as a procrastination tool. also fun is drinking chess (for the point value of any caputed piece, take that many shots of beer; drink a beer upon losing). now i plan on pursuing a Ph.D. in mathematics in order to do research in pure mathematics, so i probably shouldn't be playing drinking chess anymore.
my favorite grandmaster, whose games i've found very instructive, has been tigran petrosian. he has had the biggest influence on my playing style. i aim to play a solid defensive style, exploiting positional weaknesses over a long period of time. this venue is most likely more favorable to the positional player (although i've had my fair share of losses against flashy tactics). i like some of the semi-open games like the sicilian, paulsen variations and the caro-kann as black. more often than not though, i play the caro-kann because it seems to suit me well. as white i subscribe to bobby fischer's mantra: e4 is "best by test," but i'm going to start playing some queen's pawn openings soon, when i feel more comfortable with them. cheers!
some of my best games:
not one of my best games, but recorded for posterity:
