About Me:

My Real Life: I have been happily married for over 28 years, have two wonderful adult sons, and a successful career in restaurant management.

My Chess Game: I am a chess nut. My father taught me to play when I was a boy and bought my first chess board, set, clock and book after I showed a continuing interest in the game.  Since then I have always considered myself a student of the game, studying but never feeling like I've learned enough to be "good".

I find chess to be a great way to take my mind away from the challenges of my career, and will often use some "spare time" late at night to pick up a quick game (or two) of chess on-line.  Usually I'll play fairly quick time controls due to the limited amount of time I set aside, but before or after the game I will be quite agreeable to a bit of "chat" if my opponent is so inclined.

I have started playing a couple of "turn based" games on Chess.com, and find the pace and quality of these games to be quite agreeable.  I never use a chess engine during an on-going game, but will analyze most games with "Crafty" after they are over to (hopefully) continue to learn and improve.

I tend to resign games when I judge them to be completely lost, unless the time remaining is a critical factor.  Sometimes I may play beyond the point where I think my resignation is in order, if the position is interesting or if I believe I can learn from my opponent's technique.  Whether I win, lose or draw, I will attempt to be courteous and polite, and will usually thank my opponent for sharing one of my greatest pleasures... a simple game of chess.
