About Me:

My father taught me how to play chess when I was in grade school.  I improved a lot by playing with older and more experienced relatives and friends.  However, I played my first real tournament only in college when I was part of a group that represented my school.

I arrived in the US in 2004 for a teaching job.  I haven't really thought about playing competitive chess again until I joined the Leesburg Chess Club.  I was surprised when I became co-champion in the Inaugural Leesburg Chess Tournament.   After a few more local club tournaments, I thought about joining the USCF.  I did become a member November last year and got myself another pleasant surprise after earning top unrated honors in the Northern Virginia Open.

The Northern VA Open was my first USCF tournament.  It was a great experience getting to know how I fared against highly-rated players.  My most recent (4th) tournament was the Virginia Open where I tied for first place with two others in the Amateur (U1900) Section.  It was my first Virginia Open and winning there was such a blast.
