About Me:
I am a beginner and have been playing with some of my friends on facebook, and would like to learn, play more and improve my skills. I have been practising, and it is hard to know if I am improving or not. I think in reality, my facebook opponents are also improving, and it would be nice to think that we were all getting better at the same time! For now, I prefer turn based over immediate or real-time. I highly doubt I will ever play Blitz chess... but hopefully soon I will start playing OTB.
I have always loved the game, and used to try to get my friends to play with me, with limited success!
A few years ago I tried to learn by playing against the computer and following the tips on Chessmaster software. That did not get me very far...
...but then last May (or June?) I bought a couple of books, and since then I am becoming pretty obsessed with the game.... I have noticed that like learning a musical instrument, I seem to improve for a while and then I reach a plateau.
These days I am working through "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Chess Openings" just released a few weeks ago, written by William Aramil.
Hope to get the chance to be challenged by some of you out there!
