My father taught me the royal game when I was in grade school. I gained useful experience by playing with relatives and friends. In college, I was part of theteamthat represented my school in a competitive chess league. My interest in chess was heightened at that time.
While working as a college math instructor, I still played the game occasionally. Then I found an opportunity to move to and work in the US as a math teacher. I became a member of the USCF in late 2008. My first major chess victory was tying for first place in the 2009 VA Open (amateur) tourney.
After 2 years of USCF rated tournaments, I reached expert level. I hope to become a national master in the next 3 years.
