Returning to the game after several years absence. Learned the rules at age 8 but played very rarely — and poorly — until about age 28, when I discovered Pandolfini's Endgame Course. I joined the USCF and played a lot of informal OTB games in Washington DC's Dupont Circle for a couple of years, and even tried my hand at a couple of tournaments.
I'm now 40, and I couldn't say exactly why I stopped playing regularly... but I'm back and I'm kicking queens!
Besides chess, I love the outdoors... camping, fly fishing, rock climbing, astronomy, and pretty much anything that involves open skies and remote wilderness. If society ended tomorrow (fingers crossed), I am well prepared to live off the land.
