I rediscovered the joy of chess after having abandoned it for many years. Oddly, I started improving at the game the less I studied it and the more I simply enjoyed it, relying on experience, intuition, and improvisation to be my guides. I reject the notion that there is a "right" way to play chess. Instead, there is your way, and once you embrace it you can excel (if you also have thick skin and understand that losing is a path to learning). In short, I see chess more as art than science.

In my spare time I also volunteer as a chess coach at Missoula schools and serve as the Vice-President of the Montana Chess Association. We have a great chess community here, and I encourage you to join it online or in person if you can.
