As we near the eve of our 13th Blitz Death Match, we figure you've waited long enough for the announcement regarding our 14th! Remember, this month members are competing to qualify for the 15th Blitz Death Match in June, and you can see details here! Onto the announcement:

GM Elshan Moradiabadi and GM Yaroslav Zherebukh are confirmed to participate in Chess.com's 14th Blitz Death Match, scheduled for Sunday May 19th, at 1pm Eastern, 10am Pacific.

The two GMs will face off in three hours of fierce blitz and bullet chess until a clear winner is determined! The victor will get the fame, the glory, and a large chunk of the $1000 cash prize!

GM Elshan Moradiabadi -- FIDE 2558, is one of Iran's top players (#2 by rating), and was a member of Texas Tech's Championship Chess Team, which won the 2012 Final Four Collegiate Chess Tournament. His individual accomplishments include winning first place in the 2010 Ikaros Chess Festival, as well as the 2001 Iranian Chess Championship, which he won at the age of 16.

GM Moradiabadi

GM Yaroslav Zherebukh -- FIDE 2614, is ranked #14 by rating in the chess powerhouse Ukraine. Zherebukh won the super strong 2010 Capelle-La-Grande Open Tournament and made headlines in the 2011 World Cup by upsetting super-GMs Pavel Eljanov and Shakhriyar Mamedyarov. He also recently enrolled in Texas Tech University, adding even more young talent to the already booming U.S. college chess scene.

Here is Zherebukh's key win over GM Shakhriyar Mamedyarov:

These two college chess stars will be looking to prove their blitz prowess in what is sure to be one of the most hotly contested Death Matches yet! Be sure to mark your calendars for Sunday, May 19th, with pre-match interviews starting at 1PM Eastern, 10AM Pacific. The action will be covered live on ChessTV, open to all members and hosted by IM Danny Rensch with special guests!
