4-Way Tie At Corus

There were some tremendous games in round 11 at the Corus tournament in Wijk Aan Zee, leaving a 4-way tie for the lead between Aronian, Radjabov, Dominguez and Movsesian.

Best of all the games in the A Group was a terrific tactical victory by Dominguez over the former sole leader Aronian in a gambit line of the Ruy Lopez.

Kamsky was another winner, impressively defeating Karjakin to earn his second win of the tournament.  Other wins came from Radjabov who used his pet King's Indian Defence to overcome Wang Yue, and Movsesian continued his impressive tournament by beating Van Wely with the black pieces.

In the B Group, Nigel Short won quickly against Navara by employing Alekhine's Defence, to keep half a point ahead of Kasimdzhanov and Caruana who also won their games.

The C Group saw a change of leader as Wesley So from the Philippines took the lead by winning impressively against Bosboom whilst former leader Hillarp Persson lost.  So and Persson will clash in a crucial round 12 encounter.

14-year old Russian player Anish Giri achieved his third and final GM norm, to qualify for the title.  Congratulations on a tremendous achievement!

Amazing 4th straight win of superGM Wesley SO against Bosboom! The world's youngest GM overtaked former leader Hillarp Persson for haft point lead going to the last 2 rounds.  At Live Games early this morning- Wesley playing black in Slav, put a nerve gas in some air breathing of Hillarp Persson's chance for division C title.Wesley brilliantly won the queen of Hillarp Persson in series of exchange for a lopsided win. Wesley extend his lead to a full point behind Anish Giri and 1.5 against Persson who drop to 3rd spot. A draw against GM Howell in last round will give wesley the CORUS C Championship and a seat in next year CORUS division-B.  May God continue to bless this kid.    For the record, Wesley has 2 game winning streak (including the 2008 World Junior Championship) against next opponent GM David Howell of England. Go Wes!

It's nice to see Nigel Short playing and winning one of Fischer's favorite weapon- the Alexhine defence.   Short,Caruana and YI Fan Hou is my bet in B-Group.

In A-Group, I saw the shadow of legendary Kasparov in Radjabov's brillant play against Wang Yue. Radja is one of the best Kings Indian Player of our time. Nice upset win by Dominguez against Aronian. Dominguez is the next best Cuban GM after the Great Capablanca. Meanwhile in Live Games early this morning, the future world champion and A-Group undefeated superGM Magnus Carlsen post his only 2nd win in this tournament over GM Smeets. Carlsen after the series of drawn games finally join the leaders group of Aronian,Radjabov, Dominguez,Karjakin and Movsesian going to the crucial last round.
