Abasolo - solo leader; 11-years old unrated boy shocked Cantonjos!

Region X Silverio Abasolo defeated Nazario Ubanan of Cagayan de Oro to grab the solo lead after five rounds of the Tonsuya Non-Masters Active Chess Tournament held at the Tonsuya Covered Court, Malabon City. The real shocker was a loss by top seed Allan Cantonjos (ELO-2191) in a Queens Pawn Game at the hands of 11-yr. old Melwyn Kenneth Baltazar. Cantonjos attacked the enemy King's position without letting up putting the young boy into defensive. However Baltazar,defended brilliantly that caused the 33- year old mainstay of Philippine Air Force,to lost by time forfeit.In other games Frederick Bernabe of Valenzuela City upset Manila Youth Game under-17 champion Michael Kevin Baltazar to move into contention with 3.5 points the same score of Allan Macala (2096) and Marlon Ricafort(2096) who drew their 5 th round game.
