php7pES6g.jpegThe 48th Capablanca Memorial took place in Havana, Cuba from 20 April - 1 May (exactly the same dates as the Alekhine Memorial!).

The Hungarian grandmaster Zoltan Almasi (pictured) took first place in the 6-player double round-robin Elite section with 6½/10, half a point ahead of the two Cuban competitors Yuniesky Quesada Perez and Leinier Dominguez Perez.

It was an excellent result for Almasi, which takes his live rating back above 2700 Elo.
