Anand Loses In The Bundesliga

vishy anand worried.jpgWorld champion Vishy Anand suffered a shock loss in the German chess league today, while playing on top board for six-time champions Baden-Baden.

Anand lost with the black pieces to the Russian-born GM Sergei Tiviakov, who now plays for his adopted Netherlands.

39 year-old Tiviakov is currently ranked #73 in the world with a rating of 2673 Elo.  Vishy Anand's form over the last year has been very poor by his own high standards, seeing him fall to #4 in the world rankings and well below 2800 Elo on the live rating list.

With less than a month before Anand defends his title against Boris Gelfand in Moscow, the champion desperately needs to find some good form to ensure victory in a match where on paper at least, he is a strong favourite.

Baden-Baden also suffered a surprising loss on board 2, where Paco Vallejo Pons lost to Peter Acs. However the match with SC Eppingen ended drawn 4-4 thanks to wins from German GMs Arkadij Naiditsch and Phillip Schlosser.

Werder Bremen kept their league title hopes alive with a 6½-1½ thrashing of SK König Tegel.  Full results and games here.

The final round of matches takes starts tomorrow (Sunday) at 10:00 (08:00 UTC).  Follow the games live at the official website.

May be the big guys should help here. But, black's white bishop is entombed and requires too much time to unlock. So, black's other bishop and the rook won't be enough to chekmate, while white can create trouble with the g and h pawns storming forward.

people making noise about Carlsen, where was he in Corus(tatasteel)

he was second sharing with Caruna and Rajbadov, who are 65-70 elo rating below him. while his game with Topalov where he was totally down and win due to mistake of his opponent.

Carlsen 'baby' will take more than 5 years to win WC against giant Anand, Topalov, Kramnick, and Aronian, even after that he will face tough against Caruna and Giri

Look Anand is not superman. He is human just like all of us. Who can say they never lost a game of Chess before: no one. So he lost, do any of you have a record like Anand. That answer is NO! None us has a record like his,  and we all will never have one like his. Don't act like you don't do what humans do: any of you. And stop putting the man down. He is still by far the best chess player in history.Should he leave the game his record still stands among the best. Personally, I respect the guy because he understands what he should do in the next round of his career.Tongue out

mobidi I personally think Tiviakov deserves applaud. Of course Anand is not playing upto the mark and accepting draws after draws. Just have a look at his statistics

Still I feel world championship will be exciting cause as you said both players have different style.

@ in_pras78 I think- ALL chess-players VERY LIKES Anand-because he is really BIG MASTER,his style is very interesting and nice (  GREAT INTUITION ).What about FIDE rating system-it is very bad,but better than nothing.I think match Anand -Gelfand will be very interesting.Boris is chess-academic (Boleslavsky school),his style is  disimilar to Anands style.Anand is favorite, but Gelfand also have good chances.Psychological factor will be main!

Anand is very nice player-he have very strong intuition and can to play like great Capablanca, but ..in this case his position was very unpleasant-simple ,but little worst.Tiviakov showed very good technical level.

sregor22 please answer who stopped others to qualify themselves for WC challenger ? if they could not qualify then on what basis they are better than Gelfand who qualified for match ? Does it really matter how smart someone is if he can not give answers in exam ? IMHO performance at right time matters lot and that's what Gelfand did.

You said "Whatever the outcome of the Anand match people will unfortunately not see them as a true champion."

Please don't say "people will not see" just say "I dont think". Do not talk on behalf of people. I personally think it will be exciting and winner will be true winner. See the thing is if we don't accept excuse for anyon'e bad patch then we should accept his win like a true winner.

For gods sake get your facts correct about Sri Lanka when they won world cup. I said Sri Lanka was weaker as ccompared to Australia and other few teams.

sregor22  I really don't want to see your games with IM. I have better collection in my database. Be happy with your games. Just let me know one thing if you had beaten IMs in real tournament or online ?

BTW who stopped others to challenge world champion. If someone is so capable they should have claim the crown. You are calling comparitively weak to Gelfand and Anand. Is that what you really mean ? Gelfand has proven himself to challenge Anand ( He deserve to play against Anand ) and Anand is already World Champion. Why did not others who are on top at this moment claimed Gelfand's position for world championship challenger. As if Gelfand and Anand stopped them.

You mentioned other sports. RIGHT ? There was Cricket world cup which Sri Lanka has won. No one ever claimed that Sri Lanka will take the World cup ( Except Richard Hedley who said Sri Lanka can claim the crown ) and that too easily, but it did happen and on top it was wonderful match to watch with great excitements ( For your kind information Sri Lanka was weak compared to teams like Australia, India, Pakistan and others )

in_pras78: Anand is one of my favorites and he played chess at the highest level, his games true gems. I don't like anyone belittling anybody. But, I don't think the two comments target Anand directly.

ceddy28 I am not talking about genuine comments here. I am not a person who support just because Anand belongs to my country. I clearly took the name of person who posted this "this makes me sooo happy :D anand gelfand is going to be the worst world championship in 100 years" and one more post from someone "Now that we have an excellent system for determining the number one rated chess player, having a world champion who is not number one is ridiculous." Please let me know if this statements are to be condemed or not. What was deal for being happy for Anand's loss ?

I again clarify I am not biased because of Anand's nationality. I am just saying we should not use harsh words against person who has proved his caliber. Ofcourse genuine and unbiased aalysis is always welcome like Natalia said "Anand's performance is still alarming" I agree for last many games Anand is accepting draws after draw. It is alarming for sure.

in_pras78: I don't think there are any quacks targeting Anand. I think many of them are being neutral observers, genuine comments. May be you're supporting Anand only based on your nationality? I know that's the human side and it is understandable. And no excuses for a defeat. If I had a baby girl, she would probably motivate me :)
