Anton Korobov won the 2012 Ukrainian Chess Championship which took place from 26 July - 7 August in Kiev.

It was an excellent result for Korobov (pictured), who finished a full point ahead of the very strong field with an undefeated score of 8/11 in this 12-player round-robin event.  The only notable absentee from among the top Ukrainian players was Vassily Ivanchuk.

Defending champion and top seed Ruslan Ponomariov could only manage a disappointing 4th place finish.

    MrMars,

50 Qb3 is not a mistake. It wins easily after 50...Kf7 51 Qg3 etc. but 50 Rxg6+ is somewhat stronger.

qb3 in the last game is a mistake. correct is Rxg6+ followed by taking the c6 pawn. there are no threats that black can do to really compensate for being a rook down. I think after Qb3, black is definitely worse, but can claw and try to draw

You can really see from the sparkles in his eyes, and the ear-to-ear grin, that he just won a championship!
