Arctic Securities Chess Stars - Day 1

Submitted by SonofPearl on Sun, 08/29/2010 at 12:20am.

Magnus Carlsen and Vishy Anand justified their status as favourites by both beating Judit Polgar and Jon Ludvig Hammer on the first day of the Arctic Securities Chess Stars challenge in Kristiansund, Norway.

However, it was far from plain sailing for the big guns, as Magnus' comments reveal on his blog.  All the games from day one are below. The colours are reversed for day two on Sunday, before the final and 3/4th place matches on Monday.

All games are played at the rapid time control of 20 minutes, plus 10 seconds increment.

Live video coverage from Norwegian TV during the games is available here.

The official website is here.

Carlsen was better then Judit in opening.. howveer a dead drawn endgame but carlsen being up a pawn tried so hard to win, that he ended up in a losing position, after accurate play from carlsen he managed to draw 2 pawns down!

Hammer was better then anand.. but as always misses everything and then he lost.

Judit was better out of the opening against Carlsen, and she blew it ... Carlsen is starting to have the Kasparov Effect!
