Breaking News: Bobby Fischer's Inheritance Ruling

Since Bobby Fischer's death in January 2008, there has been an unpleasant and increasingly unseemly battle to gain control of his estate, estimated at $2 million.

An Icelandic Court ruled today that Miyoko Watai was legally Fischer's widow and should inherit his estate, estimated at $2 million.

Bobby's nephews had claimed that the marriage was not legitimate, but the Icelandic court ruled clearly against them and also ordered that they pay Watai's legal costs.

However, the lawyer acting on behalf of the nephews has already stated that there will be an appeal, so the desperately sad saga may not be over just yet.

I am sure Fischer was not an easy person to live with

and I do think that his Japanese wife deserves to inherit

everything left behind. Whether they were legally married or not

    is immaterial

Watai san deserves all the inheritance as a devoted wife to Fischer. I wonder if the nephew even spent some time playing chess with his Uncle Bob.

Pity the child who has ambition
Knows what he wants to do
Knows that he'll never fit the system
    Others expect him to

Good for Watai San. And to all those on here who says she's a money grabber or that they don't care; wouldn't you do the same and why reply in the first place?

ethics and morals vanish when money is in question. a good judgment.too bad it has to go for appeal.

A wife will most likely always supersede a nephew in these types of matters.  Greed is one thing, reward for devotion is another.  Does anybody know what their relationships were like with the Champ?

jesterville, he did no more running than Karpov himself did.

Ont: It seems Fischer had a falling out with his sister before she died, so I doubt he was very close to his nephews, I'm all for the money going to Watai.

I guess he should've been very close to those nephews, huh? After decades of isolation...

I hope its not a sad case of avarice from some dishonored relatives.
