Charter

I would like to know what your opinions on creating a charter for the group would be.

Should we have one? I

f so, what direction should we take?

What type of  rules should we write that will help  keep the members civil, and not  acting outside of respect for self and the  others; yet still encourage freedom of expression and speech.

Do we open up seperate lines for writers, painters, musicains, critics, theologians, philosophers etc where they (we) can share (there) our talents.

The way I see it, before the advent of the web, in order to play chess with say someone at a great distance away, one would have to do so through correspondence via letters: very time consuming task that also is lacking in real time movement.

The same can be said for the sharing of ideas.

We have here a small venue for combining these gifts into one arena. Maybe even expanding outside of this chess site and forming alliances of a Modernday Enlightenment.

But before I go off on a tangent, again I ask for some input into creating a declaration, manifesto, constitution, or just some pool rules and guidlines that will place out in the open for all to see.

If only passion
were not such a slave
to pleasure
to pain, we
could bring along
ego
and let it run free
across the great
distances
that separate.

Pool rules sound ok.

1. Ideas will not be censored

2. Dont offend purely to offend

3. Have some manners

Thats all I can think of.

Great!

Ideas should have no bound. Neither distance, nor time, nor norms. . .

Pawnsolo2, I think a charter would be a wonderful idea. Its not a bad idea to have the groups goals and visions laid out in charter form. It would also be great to have a guide to appropriate behavior. Civility is a lost cornerstone of our society and we could certainly set a great example by bringing the concept of civil behavior back. Let me know what I can do. I want to be involved.
