Cheaters in Advanced Chess

I'm not aware of any members of our group whose accounts were closed in the recent clean-out of cheaters by Chess.com.  If you were a cheater this group would not be a good place to hide.

I have a huge discrepancy between my good slow chess rating and my average live chess rating.  This can be a tip-off to a cheater but in my case it is because I take a lot of time on each move in my on-line games to overcome my lack of tactical vision at live game pace.  I rarely blunder in slow games but when I ask Shredder to analyse my slow games I see that I miss a lot of good moves and play 2nd or 3rd best instead.  My least error-laden game was against onegoodmove: http://www.chess.com/echess/game.html?id=42807026

On another note, I found a fun position to try with your computer and blogged about it here: http://blog.chess.com/Clavius/computers-cant-find-this-win

Completely agree, Firebrand.  Don't care about my ratings good or bad, just want to improve.  I've been doing a lot of tactics trainer in the last year trying to improve my live chess.  We'll see how that works out.

Clavius, it makes it look worse when you feel the need to defend your rating being much higher than in blitz, especially when making the '2nd or 3rd best move' argument. The more skilled cheaters know to variate from the top move in order to avoid blatant detection, so they have used the 'see, I'm not making the best move' argument themselves. It's better to just avoid playing blitz on your CC account and instead play it on another server if you're paranoid of the comparison.

I love to play blitz, so I don't care what people think of my ratings. I could technically break 2000 if I were to do like others and play only lower-rated players, but I prefer a challenge and play only the strongest available willing to play me.

I don't think it's an indication of cheating. I play the same way. In live chess, I tend to miss a lot of tactics and blunder often. Time-factor makes me nervous when playing and I can't use 100% of my ability.

That being said, I do blunder in online chess as well and miss tactics, but far less regularly. Simply because I can look at each move and position much longer than in live chess. Or at least that's how I see it.
