Ivan Cheparinov Wins 2012 Politiken Cup

Ivan Cheparinov of Bulgaria won the 2012 Politiken Cup on superior tie-breaks from Ivan Sololov and Jonny Hector after they all achieved a score of 8/10 points.

It was a tight competition, with a crowd of 15 players finishing with 7½ points, just half a point behind the top three.

The 2012 Politiken Cup was a 10-round Swiss with nearly 300 players held in Helsingør, Denmark from 28 July - 5 August.  The time control was 90 minutes for 30 moves, then 30 minutes to finish with a 30 second increment from the start.

Rasmus Svane from Germany (7½ pts) and Jacob Carstensen from Denmark (6½ pts) earned IM-title norms.

    Sokolov Ivan. True he is from Bosnia but plays for Nederland. Same as from Ukraine: Anna Muzychuk plays for Slovenia,  Kariakin for Russia, Beliavsky for Slovenia. Shirov is from Latvia but played for Spain and so on.

    Ivan the Terrible...he should be creeping up around 2700 with this win, he's not on the live rating list so i'm betting he is right below it
