Dear Members of Chess.com University,

Chess 013: Opening Proficiency for 1200 - 1500 Players concluded three weeks ago and turned out to be Chess.com University's best-selling course till date surpassing even Chess 012: Strategy and Tactics for 1200 - 1500 ELO Players. Both courses were taught like an online college class, a format that has brought great success to Chess.com University.

The courses covered everything 1200 - 1500 ELO players need to know regarding the class topic in order to take their chess to the next level. With a proper balance of content-based homework, practice-based homework, and class lessons, I am confident I designed two of the most thorough and beneficial chess courses ever offered on the internet.

It's now time to officially announce:

Chess 014: Endgame Technique for 1200 - 1500 ELO Players!

Note that this is not an announcement for a seminar. The Chess 014 course follows the "class format" meaning it will be like an online college class:

- Syllabus

- Video Lectures + Written Notes

- Class Textbook

- Assignments with Feedback

- Full use of Chess.com Diamond Membership Features

- Final Exam

Instructor: Kairav Joshi

Endgame Technique for 1200 - 1500 ELO Players Class Overview:

This is a thorough class covering everything players between 1200 and 1500 ELO must know about endgames. Key topics include: endgame principles, endgame evaluations, common endgame tactics, principle of two weaknesses, planning in the endgame and later phases of the middlegame, king and pawn endgames, minor piece endgames, and techniques for saving inferior endgame positions.

The goal will be to become knowledgeable about endgames and proficient at applying endgame principles to all sorts of positions including later phases of the middlegame. Once all the relevant content is covered, the focus of the class will move to developing endgame technique. Students will learn how to convert endgame advantages into wins and how to defend inferior endgame positions.

Like my previous class, this class is designed to train students, not just teach content. I want you to improve your thinking abilities as well. The purpose of this class format is to help students "learn-by-doing." Students will be able to improve their chess skills and abilities by doing the class assignments and then receiving feedback from me. Students will learn exactly how to apply their knowledge to their games and ultimately play better chess.

This class will be beneficial for those even outside the 1200 - 1500 ELO rating range; I keep using this range for naming consistency. A more appropriate range would be 1100 - 1600 ELO. Also note that Chess.com correspondence chess ratings tend to be inflated. Message me if you are interested, but unsure if this class is for you. I will give you my honest opinion.

The book is available at my online Amazon bookstore: http://astore.amazon.com/kairacad-20?node=1&page=2

There may be better priced copies available elsewhere such as www.ebay.com.

Schedule and Format:

Class tentatively starts on Saturday, December 7th, 2013 at 12:30 PM PST (Pacific Time, USA) with a live orientation session. All students will receive a video recording of this session so attending live is not required. The first live lecture will most likely be taught on Saturday, December 14th, 2013 around noon PDT but the time will not be finalized until after class begins. Again, this is the tentative schedule. The start date will be finalized by end of next week.

The class will be spread out over 5 weeks. This class is designed to be one month long but there will be a one week break during Christmas time.

Most live lessons will be taught on Saturdays at varying times to satisfy various time zones. I want every student to be able to attend at least half of the sessions live. All live lectures will be video recorded so even if you cannot attend, you will be able to watch the recording and email me any questions.

Unlike in Chess.com University seminars, only about 10% to 15% of the class instruction will be live for this chess class. This way students from any time zone with any kind of schedule may take this class! This course is extremely flexible and learner-friendly. Students may even join the class late and still have access to all of the material covered!

Chess classes allow students to simply relax and stop thinking about what they should do to improve at the game. We do all of the organizational work for you!

For those of you who truly want to improve at chess but get lazy after a while, classes are the perfect solution. If you get lazy after paying for a class, you would just waste money and that would wake you up and force you to study! :-)

Chess.com Diamond Membership

Unlike in Chess 012 and Chess 013, Chess.com Diamond Membership is NOT required in this class. With that said, Chess.com Diamond Membership is strongly recommended so those who are not Diamond Members should purchase 1 month of membership during the first day of class.
