Hello, chess.com friends! It’s been a while since my last seminar and the time had come for another one. I am Dejan Bojkov, GM from Bulgaria and one of Chess.com University’s instructors.
I am happy to announce my third seminar:
Chess 241 – Tactics in the Rook Endgames.

Level: Chess 241 is aimed at players with a strength of 800 – 1500.
When: Sunday  1-st July, 2012 at 12:00 PM Pacific Time.
Format: The total seminar duration will be 2 hours and 15 minutes, with two 1- hour sessions that are separated by a 15-minute break.
Course Description: Rook endgames are the most common endgames in chess. The reason for that is that the rooks are rather clumsy at the beginning of the game and tend to sleep throughout the opening and sometimes even during the middle game, thus becoming the last-pieces-standing. Therefore one needs to know how to handle well those situations.

In this course you will learn first of all how to apply the common tactical methods for your advantage.

After the Break (15 minutes)

You will see some more typical situations and learn what to do when things go wrong. How to use the stalemate ideas and why D-r Tarrasch once said that all the rook endgames are draw!

As a result you should feel much more comfortable whenever a rook endgame occurs in your games and will have the needed fundament to start learning the strategy of the rook endgames.

Prerequisites: There are no prereqs for this course.
Tuition: $31/person
Registration: Minimum # of students for the tentatively scheduled seminar to become official: 14 by May 28th, 2012. The maximum # of students for this seminar is 26.
