Hi. My name is Derek and I moved to Pyeongtaek, South Korea to teach English last month. I went to school in Dallas at UTD so this forum is very interesting to me. I started playing chess about 3 months ago and I play online just about everyday. I was hoping someone could give me more information about your chess clubs. I want to improve so please send me a message. My email spiffy187@aol.com or try sending me a message on chess.com. Thank you.

i'm fairly certain that students of all ages attend this thing, so my guess is, no. don't want to give the kiddies lung cancer, now, do we?

(on the other hand, well...you know.)

my only other concern would be smoking...

if I come and play some day will I leave smelling like I've been sitting in a room full of smokers all day?

Maybe that's part of the experience.

no set = no problem.

it's on the subway line 2. i would give you better directions, but you didn't say where you're coming from Wink. but, get on line two, and get off at 봉천 or 봉천동 (i don't remember which one the maps say).

as far as "playing with everybody" goes, i don't think you're likely to see anybody from this site, at least not this sunday. most of us live outside of seoul, and only come in occasionally. as for myself, i won't be making it sunday, but i'll let you know on this board when i do go, so you will be certain that there will be somebody there that you can pretend like you know. haha. good cheers to ya.

It'll be faster to understand if you actually click the link and read the homepage :)

I mean the visitors indirectly pays by ordering food or drinks.

There are tournament prizes too, which are indeed MONEY.

this all sounds fun.  What is all the hoopla about drinks, food, age groups and such?

are these the prizes for winning?

i live in 태백, so unfortunately, i am not a member. but showing up for the tournaments is totally free. (but there is food, as gksalf pointed out, that costs money.)

Only if you don't order a drink...

This is where I bought a tournament standard chess set.

The website is great, probably the best one in Korea :)
