Dear All Chess.com/TV Fans --
This news posting is in response to the many recent inquiries (notes, forum comments, etc) about why clicking the "Videos" tab on the Chess.com/TV Page (www.chess.com/tv) is not always bringing up the same list of archived videos.
Recently, we added the free LiveStream.com channel: ChessComLive in addition to our already existing channel, ChessCom. We are using this free channel for all of our "Open to All Members" broadcasts. This is for a few reasons:
- The "Open to All" shows have much more viewers, and a free channel (that is also availble for viewing here www.livestream.com/chesscomlive) is better for supporting those types of shows (for different formatting and logistical reasons not relevant here).
- Especially since the recent addition of our monthly Death Matches, the bandwidth costs associated with hosting a "premium channel" (like our regular ChessCom channel) became extremely high when the viewer count went over 500.
- A free channel allows us to open up certain shows (not just the Death Matches mentioned, but others like POB and the BIG Show) to all members without any worry of super high bandwidth costs. Basically, more opportunities to promote Chess.com/TV to all of our members and not just the premium members.
So, hopefully that explains the reasons we added this new channel -- BUT why does that change how the videos are archived? Because all the "All Member" shows and "Premium Member" shows are now on two different channels. So when you come to Chess.com/TV, sometimes the last show was an Open to ALL free show, and so the videos listed in the archive tab match that.
We will continue to manage the channel to keep the "premium" shows listed in the Videos tab more often than not, but sometimes it might show the most recent "Open to All" members shows.
Please forgive any inconvenience this causes.
