Do We Want A Win?

With this match coming up against Man Utd, does Executive Director David T.V. Moyes need to be escourting young European junior talent around Goodison Park, or does he need to get The Toffees' players motivated and ready to play this game?  If he wants to be an Everton scout instead of manager then he should do that.  If he wants to be the owner he should arrange to buy the team.

In the NFL football league many American head coaches work 20 hours a day, seven days a week and they sleep in their offices during the season.  I don't see that kind of commitment or leadership out of David Moyes.  That is the kind of effort it takes to have a winning team.  With so many injuries at Everton that is even more reason to see a well coached team this week.  Managing the team from the front office and not coaching the players is the same as saying "We quit.  We can't upset Manchester United on the road in this match, so let's not even try".

I'm sorry, but that's my perspective.  Given that Moyes is not coaching I really expect Everton to suffer another humiliating blowout.  Moyes seems to take these huge losses in stride.  I just don't get it.  " I can just smooth out the management and the fans, and talk about our great future.  6-1 Arsenal?  5-0 Benefica?  They'll get over it.  Win a few, lose a few."  Ask yourselves my friends, Did Bobby Fischer and Frank Marshall play for draws?  Moyes seems very happy with drawn results.  "Let's get in there and get that draw against Bolton".  "It's all about the defense, and the defensive players I've personally recruited."

If I owned Everton I would tell Moyes, " The front office will handle the trades, you get out on the pitch and coach the team.  When you go on television I wish to see dirt on your team uniform.  It will appear as though you are actually working.  We will sip the campaigne, and you will smell the sweat in the locker room.  That is what we pay you for."

Another Everton disaster is looming above Old Trafford.  The Toffees' only hope is if Manchester disregards them and discounts goals.

Best case senario:

Neville gives the motivational speeches.

The assistant managers do the coaching.

Moyes sits in the skybox with the owners and watches the games.

Delegate, delegate, delegate.  This is called the hands off approach.

"Just play the way I used to play.  I'm going for a pint now."

"Everton also have another problem - Rooney always seems to try even more against his old club.  As an Everton fan I would refrain from booing him since that just seems to stoke his fire rather than distract him.

I feel a wee bit sorry for Moyes. Over the years he's done great with a fraction of the budget of the likes of Spurs. It must also hurt to see his best players getting moved on.

Wait a minute - I'm wrong. I don't actually feel sorry for anyone that commands a wage of millions" :)

I can hear the Manchester United manager, Alex Ferguson, telling his crew right now, " Let's get this win over Everton on Saturday and get our season back on track."
