Essex Champion ???

The County Championship Council has submitted this article - Do we want a competition to find the Essex Team Champion?? Let me know....

"It was suggested by richkitch (and was an idea that crossed my mind), that we could hold an individual tournament for each of our county teams. The winner of each would then go on into a tournament to determine an overall individual champion. I like the idea, and wonder what you all think.

I know some of you are already holding individual events. That's fine, you could just nominate your winner to go through to the league-wide event.

I advise holding your own county tournaments outside of the tournament options on here, because non-members can only enter 1 tournament, and it's a waste for them to have that taken up by this. I also advise that you ask your county who is interested first, before submitting them to the rigours of a tournament. You're free to choose whatever format you like for your tournament, just try to keep games to a minimum, and don't make it drag on for too long.

If you don't want to hold a tournament, you're free to simply ask your highest rated player if he/she wants to play in it, which is fair enough, but in my opinion, ruins the fun a little. ;-) You're also free to object to this happening at all, and opt to not let your county take part in it. Again, up to you.

Would there be interest in this sort of thing? How many counties have their own competition underway?"
