Ok folks, we have gathered a few hardy souls, now it is time to let me know what you want this group to be at.  Do we want to play team matches, vote chess, study group, discussion group, bitch band in the shed, or what?  Give me some idea of what you'd like to see happening.

Oh yeah, I'm Jennifer and I am in Mount Pearl.  So, who are all of ye?

A team match is a match between two teams where, once members have been chosen/locked in, each member is paired up against another member in the opposing team according to rating.  They play two games, one as white, and one as black.  After all the games have been played, the points are tallied up (1 for a win, 0.5 for a draw, 0 for a loss) and whichever team has earned the most points wins the match.

Hey, I'm Julian

MUN student, going into masters, the CABE program. I'll be working with rats, making them do stuff for science.

I'm probably what you would call a casual chess player, never really partisipated in any real tournies or groups. I mostly play chess to get my mind warmed up, I get more work done that way.

You'll have to forgive me for being so green, but what exactaly is a team match?

My name Doug, I live on the west coast of the Province.  I like to play team matches as well as tournaments.

Ok, so it is team matches.  Shall I seek out another small team and see if ||I can start a row?

Name's Anthony, also in St. John's.  Moved here from Southern Harbour (about hour and a half away from town) last summer, will be starting be second year of university in the fall.

I'd prefer just team matches as well.  And a few friendly games between fellow Newfoundlanders wouldn't hurt...I like that "in-group tourney" idea.

There's also a meeting in the food court at the University Center at MUN every Tuesday at 7:30.  We only get 5-6 players each week now because it's the summer and most players are on vacation, but we never did get more than a dozen players I think.  Monthly tourneys are held at the end of the month as well if you're a CFC member, although this month's tournament won't be going ahead because the regulars are on vacation.  Instead it'll be replaced by a round robin tournament where the players can contact each other and play their games on their own time, as long as they're done before September I think.

Sounds Ok to me Nick, but, I don't even own a chess board anymore, haven't for years.

Yup. team matches would be my preference as well.

I'm Nick and live in St. John's.  I guess I am more interested in team matches.  Not really interested in the vote chess as I am involved in too many games already on Team Canada and Team Eastern Canada.  If we are all geographically close, then maybe we could meet for an "in-group" chess tourney?
