The Daily Mirror reports that the Catalan Giants have recently despatched their chief scout Albert Valentine to track the Welsh winger, and that his glowing reports back to the club have convinced Pep Guardiola to make a move to bolster the left flank that he believes is the only weak link in his side.

The 22-year-old's £75,000-a-week contract runs for another four years, but the paper claims that joining the reigning European champions "may be difficult for Bale to resist".

Arsenal are looking closely at Rennes' £8m midfielder Tongo Hamed Doumbia, a 22-year-old winning rave reviews as one of the best new talents in the French game. The Daily Mail warns that the player's price could rise, however, in the light of recent interest from CSKA Moscow and Spartak Moscow.

Chelsea are to offer Daniel Sturridge a new deal worth £90,000 a week after his great start to the season, the Mirror reports.

Barcelona are to make a £35 million move to lure Gareth Bale away from Tottenham, according to Friday's papers. - 2 The 22-year-old striker has notched five goals already, and will be rewarded with a five-year deal that is effectively a 50 per cent pay rise. That extra cash should be covered by the club sending out Romelu Lukaku on loan to Villarreal in January, the paper claims.

Liverpool have rekindled their interest in Sochaux's 21-year-old midfielder Ryad Boudebouz, according to the Mail.

North of the border, the Daily Record reports that Rangers have taken two India internationals on trial.

Jeje Lalpekhlua and Sunil Chettri will arrive at Ibrox later this month, with boss Ally McCoist apparently keen to sign one or both of them in January.

Lalpekhlua in particular is regarded as a hot property, the 20-year-old striker having scored four goals in his first three matches for his country earlier this year.

Finally, Manchester City could sue Carlos Tevez for £25m if they can prove that his latest absence from the club amounts to gross misconduct.

Tevez is expected to be hit with a six-week fine worth £1.2m for skipping training in order to go to Argentina without permission, and has apparently lost out on a further £6m in loyalty bonuses after asking for a transfer last season; but the Mirror claims that is just the start.

If a misconduct charge sticks, City should then be able to sue Tevez for purposefully acting in a way that has slashed his value on the transfer market. After all, who would pay £40m for the striker now?

Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov has spoken of his admiration for manager Sir Alex Ferguson despite being on the fringes of selection.

Dimitar Berbatov remains a huge admirer of Sir Alex

Berbatov, signed from Tottenham in a £30 million deal three years ago, has made just one start in the Premier League this season.

The 30-year-old is now in the final year of his contract - although United have a unilateral option to extend by further year - and has recently been linked with Paris St Germain and Galatasaray, but the situation has not affected his relationship with Ferguson.

Berbatov told MUTV: "The way he treats players is unbelievable. Even when not playing or you're injured, he's still speaking with you and encouraging. He makes you feel special and lets you know your place in the team."

Berbatov feels it is up to him to impress in training and win his place back in the side. "Some players need to be pushed and others need to be talked to separately," he said.

"For me, he just needs to come to me and tell me what to expect from the game and the training ground, then it is up to me to show I can play every game.

"I cannot speak for other players, but it is always good when the manager comes to ask how you're feeling and makes you feel calm before you play the game.

"For me, he knows how to motivate you and how to speak with you, about football or some issues you have outside of football. Just in the way he speaks with you in the team-talk - before important games he can make you feel like it's the last game you'll play in your life, so you go out there and want to give everything you have.

"It's great - you just need to be there to see it."

He added: "Even when we're on the training ground or go to lunch, for example, it's like he is one of the team - joking around and telling stories, asking quiz questions.

"He really likes the quiz questions and it's good because he relates with the players and he's really good like that."

Ferguson celebrated 25 years in charge at Old Trafford last weekend and Berbatov has been impressed by the way the Scot has continually renewed his side.

Berbatov said: "Every time a player retires or goes to another club, he always a back-up plan on how to replace the player and build the team again."
