Gibraltar Round 3: Short Standing Tall

Nigel Short crushed Mamedyarov to remain atop the super field in Gibraltar. He allowed no counterplay in applying the Spanish Inquisition.

Hou Yifan continued her perfect run, smashing Almasi. Adams sacrificed a pawn for pressure and prevailed against Fridman. Plenty of fighting chess, with no draws allowed before move 30.

Your humble reporter won again in a game that does not merit viewing, so I am off to a 2-1 start, same as Svidler and Korchnoi!

This must be the best open anywhere. And a chance for lower rated players to play 2700+ GMs! More info and live games are available at http://www.gibraltarchesscongress.com/

Great to see Nigel Short playing strong. I have always admired his play. Great ideas that seem to materialize out of nowhere!

Good game from Short. At first I didn't see why Black resigned, but he has no answer to the threat Rc2, trapping the queen.
