GM Shabalov Wins 2008 Eastern Class Championship

The 2008 Eastern Class Championship was held in Sturbridge, MA from February 29 - March 2, 2008. The event featured 3 GMs competing for the title along with many other master players. GM Alexander Shabalov made a score of 4.5/5 to take clear first and win the event.

Now let's take a look at one of his key victories which led him to win the event. Here is GM Shabalov - FM Bournival with full annotations and commentary:

Nice game for whites , but what about 33. Nb4, probably 34.Qd2 Nc6  35. Qxg5 and blacks are in real big problems!

Missed annotation:

This also prevents 19. ... Nxb2  which forces the queen to move.

Also... 37. Qxf5+ would allow black to play 37... Rg6, blocking the queen and checking the king at the same time.  Black would then have one free move after, which has a small potential of complicating things for white.
