Sootyhammer, Tallyman steal the show
Sootyhammer (mister Sootyhammer to you Greeks) met the French of his Greek with the mostly dreaded Steinitz variation, basically outplayed him, throwing in a nice petite tactic on move 19, just to show his opponent complete disdain, as if to say “there, see? I am not afraid of your silly freakin' pawn!”.
He marshaled incredible tension around his knights before performing a wonderful open board checkmate of Spiridonas on only the 27th move. Made him look like bacteria!

In the second game, Sootyhammer took the black pieces through a Scandinavian Defense and by the 17th move had built up a solid positional lead, especially when Spiridonas miscalculated and played Re1 instead of Re2.
It makes a difference folks! Mister Hammer then demonstrated proper play with a queen whilst taking advantage of a badly placed queen to pin a rook and force Spiridonas to take a dirt nap on move 34. Well done Sootyhammer! A primer on queen play has been mailed to your opponent.
Elsewhere in the room, Tallyman was demonstrating the fine art of weaving a mating net to his hapless opponent. Beginning on move 10 he began a series of tactics that resulted in owning one of gianis’s pieces by move 20. He didn’t get to actually apply the tourniquet to the king’s neck because he abdicated 15 moves later, when he realized he had only clergy left and finally saw a mate in 1. Bright boy! Stop playing with your food Tallyman!
Enjoying the sun in Greece!
