GrayMatter Ladder Chess 2.0
Beta Testers Needed!
I have a new idea that I need a few people to help me with. So I'm looking for some Beta Testers (well, this is so preliminary maybe it would better to speak of Gamma Testers?!).... I'm calling it GrayMatter Ladder Chess 2.0
The practical logistics of administering the ladders has gradually become a bit of a burden for me. Mostly because chess.com doesn't provide tools for ladder-type competition. As a result there are quite a few rules needed and everything has to be done manually by me to track things, update ladders, etc. It is rather tedious and sometimes frustrating both for players (especially newbies) and at times for me. There has to be an easier way.
I am experimenting with a different approach. We would play our ladder matches here on chess.com as we already do and have all of the great chess.com features available to us. But the ladder itself would be on a different site. You would use that site to see the ladder standings, decide who you want to challenge, report the results, etc. That site would handle all of the behind-the-scenes work of maintaining and updating the ladder.
There is bit more to it than that, but that's the big idea. I'm not 100% sure this is the best way to go, but I'd like to experiment with it for a while without disturbing the current ladders or changing procedures. But in order to do this I need some volunteers who will be willing to join a new ladder and help me figure out how to make it work smoothly. The rules for challenging would be a bit different. The user-interface (on the other site) would look and feel different. We'll probably run into some difficulties. But we might find a way to make the GrayMatter Chess Ladder much more workable and more fun. If you're potentially interested in experimenting, please let me know by going go to a new forum thread I've created for us to talk about this and work on it. Just click here and we can work on this together...
