Heya

Submitted by Dahan on Fri, 09/04/2009 at 9:18pm.

Twenty-six hours to start up of our first Tourney. I'm really happy with the turn-out. Twenty-three players out of 61 total. Weather you know it or not, that's pretty amazing. I'm hoping that this will be a good chance for us to acquaint ourselves even more.

I'd like to get a little mentor list going. Is there any interest in this? I've mentored and been mentored by others in other groups I belong to here on Chess.com and I can say that both have been benficial to my play.

If there's a sufficent amount of interest in this idea I will attempt to set something up. What do you think?

It sounds great especially since I wasn't able to participate in the tournament because I'm in 2 already.

If you're interested in being a mentor, you could contact me and I can make a list and post it. If you're interested in being mentored, then you can contact one of the people who have volunteered and off you go.

Usually a mentor and mentee will agree on whether or not it's just one game or two or whatever.

The details are up to the players. It can be a rated game or not, include takebacks... whatever they agree on.

The two will usually talk throughout the game to explain what they're doing, seeing, point out blunders, give advice, etc. For instance, If the more inexperienced player wants to play the Sicilian Defense, the mentor can explain what counters he's employing and why. That sort of thing.

THat sounds cool, but maybe you could clarify what you mean by mentoring? Do you mean consultation about chess games?
