jermuk2012womengrandprix2012.pngWomen's world champion Hou Yifan has sealed victory in the Jermuk Grand Prix with a score of 7/11 despite suffering her only loss in the final round to Kateryna Lahno.

The result also ensures that with one tournament remaining, Hou cannot be caught in the overall 2011-12 Grand Prix standings.  The race for second place is still important, since that player will challenge for Hou's world title in 2013.

The early leader Ju Wenjun finished in fifth place after losing in the last two rounds.

The winner Hou Yifan with 2nd and 3rd placed Nadezhda Kosintseva (left) and Kateryna Lahno (right)

Theoretically, given the results so far and only one remaining Grand Prix, the title challenger can only be one of Anna Muzychuk, Koneru Humpy, Ju Wenjun, or Zhao Xue.

Anna Muzychuk has such a large advantage in points so far, that to overcome her one of the other three women would have to either win the next (and final) Grand Prix of this cycle and count on Anna not coming in second, or (in the case of Koneru Humpy) at worst achieve a split second place (assuming Anna ends lower than second place there).

Overall, it's highly likely that Anna Muzychuk will be the World title challenger -- quite deserved accomplishment given her very strong performances recently (not limited to her actually higher ELO than the current World Champion Yifan Hou).
