Ivanchuk Wins Capablanca Memorial

The 46th Capablanca Memorial was held in Havana, Cuba from 10-21 May.

The format of the main "Elite" event was a 6-player double round robin with Vassily Ivanchuk (pictured) the top seed.

Ivanchuk eventually lived up to his billing by winning the tournament, but he needed a dramatic finish in the second half of the event, including a win over the leader Le Quang Liem in the final round.

Ivanchuk and Le both finished on 6.5/10 but the Ukrainian had the superior tie-break score.
