Kasparov and Spassky at Hay Festival

Submitted by SonofPearl on Mon, 05/12/2008 at 2:24pm.

Chess fans in the UK will have the chance to see two giants of the game at the Hay Festival in Wales later this month.

Boris Spassky (pictured) is giving a simultaneous exhibition (fully booked - I tried! Cry) and is also being interviewed by Ronan Bennett - journalist and author of the chess-themed novel 'Zugzwang' - about Soviet chess culture, the psychology of the game and his famous match against Bobby Fischer.

Garry Kasparov is in Hay talking politics - he is delivering a lecture on 'Putin's Russia'.

I know that Spassky was overshadowed by Fischer, but he (Spassky) was a phenomenal chess player in his own right. Running through his games is very instructive.

Too bad you cannot play in that simul. Enjoy the event nonetheless.

Cheers!
