Kasparov v Karpov Blitz Games

So, Garry Kasparov won the rapid games 3-1 in his match against Anatoly Karpov.  Today (24th Sept) sees them move on to the 8 scheduled blitz games.

Sadly, but not surprisingly, the official site has been suffering under the weight of Internet traffic.  Coverage has been patchy, but the games and results are eventually getting through.  Live games link here.

Karpov won game 1 with the black pieces (presumably on time), and the second game was drawn.  Kasparov struck back in game 3 to level the scores and then won again in game 4 to take the lead.

UPDATE - Kasparov wins games 5 and 6 to lead 4.5-1.5 and ensures victory in the blitz match.  Perhaps now we can be treated to 1.e4 in a game guys? Wink

UPDATE - Kasparov also wins game 7, and the final game is drawn to make the final score 6-2 to Kasparov.

UPDATE - Game scores should now be error free.

The reason why kasparov almost only play d4 is that, he has to limit his ideas for now. Since magnus carlsen will be playing grand slam tour in china. And carlsen need those new ideas. Like the scottish defence, the opening kasparov really liked.

the knight endgame in round 7 suddenly seems to be a game where one waits for the other to make a mistake. in the end, it was kasparov who took the chance first.

I'm guessing Kasparov plays d4 these days because it's easier to keep track of theory (or rather, theory is less critical) and there are fewer pitfalls for either side. Anyway, I enjoyed the games. :)

Perfomance rating of 2810 for Kasparov.

It's disappointing to see how far Karpov's play has slipped.

karpov and kasprov have nothing to prove to world now, they plyd to some merit 4 charity(they havnt showed what they r known for),but nobody expected such a onesided match, anyhow on chess history only karpov will be remembered as the greatest art rival to kasparov. Most of people know well kasparov will be having upperhand due to karpovs age and also flops in tourneys, but the organisers were the ultimate oppurtunists they took their rivalary as objective to hit the topspot,if everybody wants a fierce battle with kasprov his oppt should be V.anand who is ultimate ultimate showstopper

And why did Karpov play 17. Qd4 in round 2 and go for a queen trade and a draw?
He had the white pieces and was down 3-2 in the overall match at that point.

With due respect to both former World Champions........it looked too much of one sided.

Such a shame. I really wish this wasn't a blitz match.
