Kim-Kardashian.jpgThe model, actress and fashion designer Kim Kardashian caused a stir in chess circles yesterday when she tweeted, "I want to learn how to play chess. Wondering if Levon Aronian can teach me!"

The Armenian world #3 ranked player Lev Aronian is currently playing at the prestigious Tata Steel tournament in the Netherlands.  He re-tweeted Kim's plea but didn't respond.

Chess.com owner Erik Allebest was touched by Kim Kardashian's interest in the royal game and has offered to sponsor her chess tuition, recommending 21-year old US Grandmaster Sam Shankland as the ideal tutor!

So if you're reading this Kim, please tweet your interest to @chesscom and become part of the #1 online chess community!

Calling her a "model, actress, and fashion designer" is very generous.

    <Epoqueepiqee> I disagree. I think he's very handsome.

Nice photo, Kim - and as K. Spraggett, I'm sure, wouldn't fail to mention - the board is even set up the right way!

(the bishop and knight aren't, though, and I do wonder how the queen got out)

First Levon will have to teach her the alphabet and numerals so that she can grasp the mystery behind board coordinates.

Having the Kardashians around is a lot of stigma for a small country like Armenia to bear.

Good on her for wanting to learn. If I end up playing Kim, I'll be sure to be polite, and I'll happily go through the game with her afterwards in the spirit of the great chess fraternity. It doesn't matter who you are, it just matters where you put your pieces on the board. G.
