Kramnik v Anand - Nearly There!

Submitted by SonofPearl on Mon, 10/13/2008 at 12:29pm.

There are now less than 24 hours until the start of the World Chess Championship match between Vishy Anand and Vladimir Kramnik.  Both players appeared relaxed at the opening press conference and said they were eager to get the match under way after months of hard work and preparation.

Vishy Anand confirmed that his seconds are Peter Heine Neilsen (Denmark), Rustam Kasimdzhanov (Uzbekistan), Radoslav Wojtaszek (Poland) and Surya Shekhar Ganguly (India).  He was asked directly if Magnus Carlsen was helping him for the match, but he dodged the question!  It seems likely that Magnus has had some sort of input into Vishy's match preparations!

Kramnik was asked if he expected any off-the-board incidents as occurred before in his match with Veselin Topalov.  Kramnik felt that it was very unlikely that there would be any repeat of such happenings.  Both Kramnik and Anand were unfailingly polite to one another, both saying that the only thing that their opponent did to annoy them was play such good chess!

So, the big match starts on Tuesday 14th October at 3pm local time in Germany and Chess.com will be broadcasting the game live as the lead news item.  As noted previously, the official organisers have insisted on a half-hour delay on the broadcast of moves to promote their own coverage (only the official site is completely 'live'), so the first moves should come through at about 3:30pm local time.

I only asked yesterday if the match was today rather than yesterday when it was advertised for.  Dont understand why this post was deleted.  Its not a big deal if you got the day wrong...I just wanted to know when it was.  Looks like its today though.  When will the moves be posted, and is there a half hour delay on the time?  p.s. if you delete this post as well could you at least send a wee explanation.  if there was a breach or rules or something it would be easier if you tell me i think

I can't wait! This should be really interesting and at a very high level. I wonder if any of them will crack early and lose. They're very balanced so I expect quite a few draws.
How exciting. I hadn't been following the dates or times and just knew (from chess.com of course) that there was a WCC match coming up. Now that I know I can see it pseudo-live from Chess.com I'm really pumped. I'm going to be following the game while using an engine (Rybka 3.0 :D), since I probably won't understand some of their moves anyway. I imagine that this question is silly of me to ask but how will it be shown on Chess.com? A locked thread of sorts? Will there be an open thread going allowing us to discuss the game? Maybe like Vote Chess (a thread per move)?
Even i am curious as to how are we suppose to follow the event ?  Will there be a direct link, will it be in a closed thread. I am new to this so pardon my stupid questions :)

Appreciate MOD's help on this :D

I'm very excited for the match between kramnik and anand. I believe anand will win because of his tactics.

Both players have unfortunately chosen not to employ what would probably be the strongest psychological tactic possible:  showing up to the match with a huge unkempt beard with food crumbs in it.

I'm with Kramnik; Anand might be better tactically, but Kramnik is very cool and precise.

I really like Anand but I'm afraid Kramnik is going to take his title back.  That's just the way it's gonna be folks.  Best start coping with this information now.

Chess.com will have all the moves - free!  The official coverage should be good, but you will have to part with some cash for the privilege! Smile

ICC, Playchess and other popular chess sites will be covering it too...
