Good work staff, mighty impressed, with the optional submit button, and the viewing of current online friends in live. :)

On HTC WildFire it works great!
But there is one issue which is not fix. It's about solving tactics. The steps are very simple:
1) start new problem (the time is running)
2) solve problem with, for example, Bonus_time=0, Spent_time=100 and go to next
3) when solving next problem the time is the same as you spent on the previous problem (e.g. Bonus_time=0, Spent_time=100). And when you solve the problem, the system consider that you spent 0 seconds on it. See my tactitcs history:
If the phone goes to sleep mode (screen is switched off) and I unlock it - the time starts running as usual.
Lot's of thanks, man, for your great efforts! The android app is really great and cool! =)
Kind regards,
Sergey.
UPDATE! Live chess is not working on my Wildfire. The application closes unexpectedly. :(

worked perfect for me- I have a rooted Huawei Ascend running on Android 2.1

In "Play Online" the chessboard disappears when I turn my phone on its side but reappears with I orientate the phone up and down. I have a DroidX with android version 2.2

Extra bold ... If you don't try, you'll never know! Although my connection is 99% of the time just fine, the turn base part reacts a bit sluggish with all it's updating. So I know what you mean.
But I can assure you that this does not happen in live chess, as the slow down is while switching games, and on live chess you stay on the same game till the end.
But it's true, the live chess part was said to be on beta, if you worked hard to get your rating in live chess pretty high, then I don't advice too to play around with it. But when you see live chess, like me, as a nice way to kill some time, it's worth a try for sure.

I think the usability of the turnbased chess is still more of an issue. I seem to spend a long time waiting for the app to update every move, and frequently report dropped connections, when the rest of the phone seems to be connected fine. This doesn't inspire me even to try live chess on the phone.
OK, then it reacts different on your Droid then on my HTC Wildfire (which has a small screen anyways, but for the chess app it has been fine so far)

No, that workaround didn't work for me sadly :(
I get the grey screen regardless of whether I start portrait or landscape (just reinstalled this version to check)...
David, I have the same thing here... but...
When I start the game/board in portrait, and rotate, I see, like you, only the moves
When I start the game/board (from the game survey) in landscape, it does show me the board, and it acts on rotating like it should.
I think you found a bug here, but maybe the above workaround can get you along till the next release?
Every time I rotate my phone for a widescreen view, the entire screen is filled by the move list (the board dissapears). I tend to hold my phone in the widescreen (landscape) orientation so it essentially means I can't use this version. This isn't an issue on the market application (so I've had to jump back to the market one again)...
This also happened with the last build I tried (the one which had the link which 404-ed for a while). I didn't report the issue then because I thought it was such a reproducible bug someone else would have caught it.
My phone has a 480x800 WVGA resolution and is running Android 2.2.1 (Froyo), for the record.
Looking forward to trying live chess when I can hold my phone landscape!
Good news! I could install this one over the old live-chess-version without uninstalling the old version (the previous live-version)...
I also tried a 5 min. live chess game. Nice to have the submit button to be optional... in short games, pressing the submit takes quite some precious time, but in 15 min. games it can save you from "slips of the fingers". It's now up to the user, well done.
I will play around with this version, and report any issues I encounter.
Thanks for improving this one. I assume it is still a beta version?
