Magnus Carlsen TV Interview

Submitted by SonofPearl on Mon, 10/19/2009 at 1:31pm.

After his recent success in the Pearl Spring tournament in Nanjing, Magnus Carlsen has been interviewed on Norwegian television.  The program and the interview are in Norwegian, but the video has English subtitles (they have to be switched on by enabling the closed caption option in the bottom right hand corner of the video).

does anyone consider Ruslan Ponomariov the first teenage world champion - at 18 years old he became FIDE champion? So does it mean that the classical champion was and is the only true champion...

I hope Magnus becomes the first teenage world champion

Yes Eiwob...I agree that Henrik Elvestad is a bit of a jerk. It seems that he thinks a lot about himself...Golden, on the other hand is a great tv-host and comedian.

I think Golden (the interviewer) did a great job. As mentioned, he is supposed to make fun of people, and he was respectful to Magnus. Henrik Elvestad (the guy to the right at the beginning), though, seems less likeable to me. He is good comedian, but seems a bit crazy. Making an episode of this program, he actually hurt Simen Agdestein (for Norwegians: http://www.nettavisen.no/innenriks/article1954102.ece ). Earlier he had injuried Nina Solheim, a Norwegian world-class taekwondo athlete, too.

The interviewer looks like Boy Abunda here in the Philippines, also a TV host.

Interesting what he says about brightly colored clothes.

- Should I get a flashier profile picture, or am I OK with my fleshy one?

This show is well known in norway, and i of course Magnus understand that when he goes to such show they are going to make lot of jokes(he expects so)...thats the whole point of the program...humor. I think the interwiev is funny, and Carlsen did really well:) Great guy...

You people insulting the interviewer... I don't get you. Personally, I think he's HILARIOUS. You may also be forgetting that he's a professional comedian(damn good at his job too). So grow some skin and learn to appreciate humor. Hell, it's probably good for your health as well.

Also, I liked Magnus. Seemed like a nice dude

I agree with idosheepallnight: The intervierwer is a jerk. He insinuates that chess players are less attractive to women and that Kasparov could be a homosexual, but he reveals nothing but his own bad taste. The t-shirt was awesome though!

Magnus is a level headed kid, and he did fine during the intervju. He was a little bit tense and sat as if he was just about to stand up and leave. I think I would have sat like that too.

What do you want translated, hackattack?

This guy is really smart and good @ chess, but I think that Kasparov's record will stay unbeaten for quite some time. Wink

Magnus is less arrogant than I was when I was eighteen, when my OTB rating was 812.

Ok he is a wonder kid, rocks, rules the man. That out of the way... does he not look a bit autistic? I dont know man but there is something with his face. Maybe im just being stupid but there is something in his head movements and eyes that has always led me to belive this. Same with Bob Fischer. (Also a demi god, super human chess machine)

Anyway GO C! He is my hero.

**** Latter that morning: I read up on it and he does have slight autism. Had no idea. Anyhow GO C!
