Nakamura is Chess 960 World Champ - updated

Hikaru Nakamura (pictured) has clearly got the hang of Chess960!  After a disappointing first day in the qualification round-robin, he won all three of games on the second day to book his place in the final against Aronian.

Nakamura's form continued into the final, where he blew away the world's #4 ranked player in devastating style, winning 3.5-0.5.

Look out for updates on Nakamura's blog about the event!

Meanwhile, in the huge FiNet Chess960 Open tournament, Alexander Grischuk triumphed against some very strong competition, including Gata Kamsky, Vugar Gashimov and Etienne Bacrot.

Rybka continued it's impressive play in the Livingston Chess960 Computer WCC, utterly dominating the competition with a score of 11.5/12 in the qualifying round!  Only Deep Shredder managed a draw, and came second with 7/12.  They now meet again in the final.

The main event at Mainz - the Grenkeleasing Rapid World Championship (normal chess!) started today and finishes on Sunday, and the very strong Ordix Open featuring Nakamura begins on Saturday.

Links to live coverage of all the events can be found here.

Many comments have asked for the games, but chess960 games can't be displayed by the standard replay board because it doesn't recognize castling (if neither player castles then it should work).

If you have software to play chess960 games, then the pgn of the games can be found at the official website.  Failing that, the starting positions and notation of the three decisive games are below, so you can play through them by the old fashioned method of setting up a board and moving the pieces! Smile
