For now I'm mostly looking at the online games.

The good:

  • Images sharp and clear
  • Multiple moves successful
  • Analysis board very functional
  • I like the history on the game screen (compared with the J2ME mobile version where you can't see the game history)

Crashes:

  • sometimes canceling a move caused the program to crash (Did not always happen, think it was related to canceling a turn where a piece was taken)
  • New game created by accepting a pending challenge, I was white. Board crashed trying to load.  (was able to move on subsequent turns)

Usability/Suggestions:

  • Still need use of hardware back button (as per comment on other thread)
  • Settings ought to be somewhere more global such as the home tab

Overall not quite 100% usable with the new game crash, but able to analise and make most moves in my email chess games.

Using: HTC-Dream; Android 1.6 CyanogenMod 4.2.7.1

I put this one up at www.xenomind.com/chess/Chess.apk if anyone needs it. I had three problems with it using a Moto Droid:

  1. It doesn't have a horizontal mode. I'm guessing that's in the plan once other things are worked out.
  2. When I tried to access an online game in progress, it crashed. (the game I tried to access was my current one against ddblane)
  3. I tried the tactics trainer. I got a problem wrong, and when I went to look at the solution it zipped by really fast and I didn't really catch it. I like the web interface where you can step through each move in the solution (so you can figure out why each step is the right thing to do).

Hi erik,

In terms of installation it would be easier if you publish a link to the *.apk directly. At least in Android 2.0, you can just point the browser to the URL and install.

Thanks,

Bogdan.
