I just want to say that this app is the most used app in my entire day.. other then the browser that is. Keep up and good work and speed up please. :)

Sorry to say I've uninstalled this version & put back the one from 3/1/2011 which was better.  It does Force Close more than it should & I haven't played Live Chess on it yet but at least it shows the taken pieces which this one doesn't.

Am still enjoying the app though - keep up the good work & am happy to keep trying the new releases.

I thought I should add that despite all the criticism I'm giving this app it's one of the most heavily used apps on my phone, and I'm fairly certain it's helped continue my love of both chess and chess.com during a time when I would otherwise have been too busy to find time to sit down at a computer and play! So thankyou to all you developers who have made this app and kept at least one more chess player in the world!

Yes, the waiting times are about 3-5 seconds per game, which takes quite some time in total if I'm playing several games... I think the more irritating dialog is the "updating games list" one - especially as the process seems to reset itself if I turn my phone around while it's doing the updating.

One thing that bugs me and that never worked is that I don't see any buttons on the bottom of the chess board display (like the ones you show at the screen shots on http://www.chess.com/play/android.html. I always have to go to the menu to be able to move back and forward in the game which is especially cumbersome on the analyze board. I have a HVGA display and there would be enough room for the buttons.

Other than that it's getting to be the most used app on my phone :-)

There are some force closes after finishing live games but during live games it's stable for me.

Vladimir, indeed, 3 seconds usually, both on Wifi or on GPRS.
I use an HTC Wildfire
But I can live with those "wait times" since I know it does not melt down my GPRS bundle...

When jumping between the chess games the "loading" dialogs are slightly frustrating, but updating the games list can be tedious at times. There's nothing that can solve the waiting while loading games if it really does take that long to download the information, but maybe the games list could be populated as the data comes in, rather than displaying it all in one go?

Could you tell us more about the "progress dialogs" - i.e. where & when they are causing issues?

+1 On losing the progress dialogs. It would be a significantly smoother experience without them! (Also I'm sure that the online connection is very slow compared to how fast it could be - how much data can one chess game be to download?)

I'm also getting a very large number of force closes with this version, even when the app is in the background and I'm doing something else like checking my mail. It's very frustrating...

Hmmm - a couple of problems.

• taken pieces are no longer showing - is this deliberate?  Hope not!
• I seem to get a Force Close far more often then previously

But it's great to no longer be asked to register each time I begin to use the App

An issue:

1. Open an ongoing turn based chess game . it loads and shows the board.

2. Choose Menu > Analyze

3. Press back button. we get back to the game

4. Change orientation & it says 'loading'. it fetches game state. But after it is done fetching game state, resulting board is arranged wrong. pieces are misplaced missing or of the wrong color.

It happens in other random situations too but mostly when we return to a game board from a sleeping phone or from another application by pressing back button

 

A suggestion: Please do away with all the popups.. it is very annoying getting a 'loading' message so ofter. Perhaps a animated icon can show that it is refreshing and still let the player interact with the information it fetches last time.

Oh, and please bring the captured pieces back. Perhaps half the size of normal pieces would look best.

Previous version (1 Mar) was a big improvement. No longer asks to register first time I start the App. Also good that name and no. of remaining days are back on a single line. Not tried Live chess on this version yet. About to install this new version. Will do my best to report back but encouraging so far for me. (HTC Hero ver 2.1)

Hey, guys.. Can I get someone to confirm something (probably best to try this in an unrated game)..?

The other day, I was able to move my opponent's pieces in a Live game via the 'droid app. (The moves had no effect on the real game.) Once you step out of reality, it's pretty much game over for you... You can resign, but otherwise you'll just time out in real life. (At least, that's what I saw.)

Anybody else able to reproduce this?

As above regarding captured pieces not being shown. Also board still flips when Im black after using the analyzing board. Gone back to previous version.

I noticed that (again ;-) the "captured pieces" are not shown.

Is there still a link to the previous version? For me that one was better then the current one.

Note to self: keep versions on local hard disk ;-)

just the same mistakes i tell you starting from the new year. App suddenly quits if connection is changed, sends me messages that i have no active connection when i dont need it (I Do nothing but wathing and analyzing board that is open already!!!) Now it started to make my phone die completely. if i have some problem, i can be sure - if i wait for 5 min without removing a battery, i'll see a messsage that it was chess.com app. no other app makes such a thing. just payed a year membership, and something says me, none of this money will be spent to hire good programmer specialized on android.

Ah. i forgot to tell you, that when website is closed for some works, if i try to connect to online chess in android app i see all your html code as a error message. Quite cool :) (BTW i wonder why no other site needs to close, perhaps they are making a working copy for their experiments or use some other divine knowledge).

Thats all i guess. Hope it can be fixed some day, mobile chess is the only service i want from premium membership. wbr, Peter B.
