November 2011 FIDE Rating List

  • SonofPearl
  • on 10/31/11, 9:57 AM.

fide logo big.gifVladimir Kramnik's recent good form sees him rejoin the 2800+ Elo club in the official FIDE ranking list for November 2011, but with no gain on his #4 spot from the previous list in September.

Magnus Carlsen remains the #1 ranked player, slightly increasing his lead over world champion Vishy Anand in #2 spot.  Lev Aronian holds on to position #3, leaving the top four unchanged.  However, there are some significant movers on the rest of the list.

Teimour Radjabov and Alexander Morozevich both gain eight places to rejoin the top 10 at #5 and #9 respectively.  Alexander Grischuk slips out of the top 10, now ranking at #13, and there are even bigger falls for Gata Kamsky and Ruslan Ponomariov, down to #19 and #25 respectively.

With 47 players over 2700 Elo, a poor tournament can mean a precipitous drop down the rankings!

The perennial women's #1 Judit Polgar gained a few more ratings points to solidify her newly regained 2700+ Elo status.  The #2 ranked player Koneru Humpy and world champion Hou Yifan (ranked #3) will meet in a 10-game match for the women's world title from 13-30 November in Tirana, Albania.

Anish Giri drops to #3 on the juniors list, to be replaced by Fabiano Caruana at the top, with Le Quang Liem at #2.

This will be a good play for Kramnik after not joining the last club. I still believe in Nkamura's potential to increase his rating. And Judith will be holding her title.

forri...this was exactly what Carlsen said. Obviously next year's WC match will not be a very closely watched event.

Why dont they let the top10 (or even top 6) play a round robin in order to determine world champion? World champ must compete just like all others....I think everyone in top 10 deserves a chance and has proven themselves in various tournaments that they are able to compete.

I know there is the tournament vs match debate but I think if you came No. 1 in such a Top10 round robin you deserve the title of world champ more than with the current system.

With a match only one or two openings are often played! With the round robin you will probably have to play a wider range of openings depending on your opponents weak points.

Nothing against Gelfand - i think he is very good player - but No 1 vs No 14 is not really going to convince the chess world  and large sponsors. The difference in rating is 67 which is fairly large!

I hope the match isnt as boring as the anand-topolav catalan match.

Except for hikaru nakamura. Japanese father and american mother born abroad can still come in as natural born US citizen as long as american mother meets the requirements. The process is called consular report of birth abroad.

Good to see you climbing back up the womens list WGM Pogonina. Can we expect to see you at more top tournaments? Perhaps nabbing some of Kosteniuks invites now that you've eclipsed her Laughing

As for the mens list, it's good to see some of the younger guys like Le Quang Liem and Giri creeping up. I wouldn't be surprised to see them both flirting with the top 10 in the not too distant future.

yes, Feller is a proven cheat...a technicality prevented use of his text messages to have him banned...he was receiving text messages with his current games while his matches were in progress...being sent to him by other members of the French Team. Some of these same members confessed to the whole thing...but his personal text messages cannot be used as evidence (in France)...so he has gotten away.

What is Feller's cuurent status?? DavidP and DannyR said on Pardon our Blunders he is a proven cheat. If true, why is he on the rating list?
