Dear Chess Players & Parents,
We're very near to the end of another busy season with one final session to come on Saturday July 10th. We'd like to thank all of you who have supported the club and played in our special events. We hope you've had as much fun as we have!
We're going to take a break over the Summer, returning on Saturday afternoons at the ETNA Centre on Saturday September 4th and on Tuesday evenings at Twickenham Prep School on Tuesday September 7th.
We've put together an exciting programme for 2010/11. You can find full details on our web site and there's a calendar as well. New features for next season include the following:
- We'll run 6 blitz tournaments during the season, with free entry to members and cash prizes. These will now take place in the afternoon, to give many more of our members the chance to play in these fun events.
- We'll organise a Club Championship during the Spring term with trophies for all age groups and qualification to the UK Chess Challenge Megafinal.
- On Saturday December 11th, we will visit the London Chess Classic at Kensington Olympia. This is one of the world's most prestigious chess events and a wonderful opportunity for our members.
To summarise the benefits of Club membership at the ETNA Centre:-
- 38 3-hour Saturday afternoon sessions
- Free entry to 6 blitz tournaments
- Free entry to the Club Championship / UK Chess Challenge
- Free entry to the London Chess Classic
- Reduced entry to the London Junior Chess Championship qualifying competition
- Eligibility to play for the club in the Junior 4NCL and EPSCA team competitions
We are going to have to increase our Saturday membership fees shortly, but you can renew your membership at current rates until the start of next season. There are two ways to pay:-
Likewise, you can take out a Tuesday membership for the Autumn term at the equivalent of £5 per session (TPS pupils should contact the school directly).
Thanks in anticipation.
Let's finish off with a puzzle for you - you are White and it's your move. What would you play and how would you expect the game to finish? Will you Win, Lose or Draw?
No prizes, just for fun!
With best wishes from all of us at the Club,
