Short v Efimenko Match

Submitted by SonofPearl on Fri, 09/18/2009 at 4:25am.

Universal Event Promotion (UEP), perhaps best known in the chess world for their promotion of the 2008 World Championship between Vladimir Kramnik and Vishy Anand, are organising a match between English #1 Nigel Short (pictured - Elo 2706), and Ukrainian Zahar Efimenko (Elo 2654).

The match will consist of six games from 20-26 September in Mukachevo in the Ukraine. The time control is 90 minutes for 40 moves, then 30 minutes to a finish with an increment of 30 seconds per moves from the start.

The official website is here, and live coverage will be available at this page.

If Efimenko gives up the center like he did here, it might be lights out quick! I don't know enough of his style and background to make an honest assessment though.

Interesting, should be a good match, i like the time controls.

I've never seen a pic of Nigel Short before.....am i the only one who thinks he has dentophobia?!?lol

Seriously Nigel, you're representing your country, its worth the money!!(either get them fixed or dont smile so hard.)

I like Nigel because he is not afraid to show his emotions.  Some chess professionals may feel uncomfortable with that.  I was watching the videos where they interviewed players after Bobby Fischer died, and many of them gave very mechanical type answers, but they interviewed Nigel and he seemed like he was going to break down in tears right there.

Efimenko's victory will be short and sweet.

I'll check it out, but I will mainly be watching another match
that particular week between two legends, Kasparov and Karpov.
